Can I reduce my blood pressure without taking drugs?

by Stan

How can I reduce my blood pressure without taking drugs.

My doctor has told me that my blood pressure is getting high and I need to reduce it. He's said that if I don't get better readings next visit, then I will have to start taking drugs.

Reduce Blood Pressure Without Drugs
by: Liz

It depends why your blood pressure is high in the first place.

Lifestyle can play a big part - lose weight, get more exercise, give up smoking, drink less alcohol, eat less fatty foods and more vegetables.

You might not live longer - it'll just seem like it :-)

Seriously though, you should also try and do 15 minutes a day of deep breathing. Try to breathe in for 5 seconds and out for 5 seconds for 15 minutes. It's quite hard to do as you have to concentrate, but it is very effective. Use a watch and just count the seconds as you do it.

High Cholesterol

There's some information on this page as well that will give some general advice about lowering blood pressure and some herbal remedies that you can use, such as garlic and dandelion leaves.

The other factor is stress - so try not to get worked up about your blood pressure or life in general.

Best of luck - you should be able to avoid taking medication for high blood pressure if you try.

Liz
