I am growing basil in my sunroom and wonder if you can use the top part where it is going to seed with blooms on it. I hate to waste any part that is edible. Thanks for your help.

Hi

As a rule, you would nip out the flowers - the general guidance is that you don't allow the basil to flower.

It's an annual - it's job is to produce flowers, get them fertilised, seed then die.

If you allow it to flower, then you're possibly letting it develop seeds - that will signal to the basil plant that it's job is over and it can die.

Regards

Liz
