Soil ph for mint

by cliff file
(Morganton, NC US)

Just read that mint grows about anywhere and is invasive.

I had a nice patch and it just all died out one winter and never came back

Just planted some more but fear my soil may be too acidic for it.

Advice on correct ph??

Mint grows in any soil - however, it does need light and is prey to rust.

This means that if it gets contaminated by rust spores, you are likely to lose the whole lot.

I can only think this is what happened to your mint.

It does take a lot out of the soil and so you need to give the soil a dressing of compost or well rotted manure - other than that, you just need to contain it.

I am very surprised that you have lost all of your mint - was it a very cold winter perhaps?

I need a bit more information before I can advise you fully here.

Thanks

Regards

Liz
